Permanent Safety Boom Protects Lac L'Heureux Dam in Quebec
A major safety milestone was recently achieved at the Lac L'Heureux Dam near Saint Colombian, Quebec, with the successful installation of a permanent safety boom system. The boom was supplied by Ecocoast and installed by Limoges et Fils, a general contractor, and Equinox Construction Services is supporting it as a Project Manager.
Strategically positioned across the face of the dam, the durable boom system acts as an extra barrier, preventing debris from accumulating near the dam infrastructure. Keeping the area around the intakes clear is crucial for ensuring normal dam operations. The newly implemented safety system provides a reliable, eco-friendly solution that requires minimal maintenance while maximizing protection.
Our marine containment booms are engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions and debris impact, providing the highest level of protection. We commend everyone involved for their commitment to raising the standard for dam safety.
The Installation Process
Project Manager Bryan Moloughney of Equinox Construction Services led the installation. The state-of-the-art boom system comprises sturdy floatation blocks connected by high-strength cables.
Enhanced Safety and Security
This dam facility operates as a water control structure to regulate water levels in Lac L'Heureux. Properly maintained dams are crucial for St. Colomban to moderate exposure to seasonal flooding.
The safety boom enhances the dam's resiliency against costly emergencies by shielding the intakes from debris accumulation. Its enduring design accounts for climate change effects that threaten water infrastructure. Permanent barriers like these help communities improve safety and responsiveness.
